Grand Exchange

The Grand Exchange is the hub of the world and the way to trade items. PrivatePS uses a hybrid Grand Exchange: everyday items (staples) can always be traded with the server, while rare items only change hands between players. Ironmen cannot use it.

Your own offersmust lie between 80% and 110% of the guide pricebetween 10% and 1,000% of the reference price (never below the alchemy value)
  • Guide price: follows the Old School RuneScape price and drifts slowly towards what players really trade for (at most 3% a day, and only when enough different players traded). The server's own trades never move it.
  • Buying and selling to the server moves the price a little (5% for every buy limit of items, at most 10%, fading in about two hours). Buying and selling straight back always loses coins, so there is no trick in it.
  • Staples never cost more than the cheapest shop sells them for, so shops and the Grand Exchange cannot be used against each other.
  • Prices can be frozen by staff, for example after a rollback; then they stay where they are until staff unfreeze them.

Offers

  • Use the Grand Exchange clerks or ::ge. You have 8 offer slots (supporters have 10, see Supporter perks).
  • Offers match by price and then by time: the older offer sets the price. An offer that is at or above what the server asks (or at or below what it pays) is simply filled by the server.
  • Buy limits: for each item you can only buy a limited number every 4 hours. The limit is shown in the offer screen and on the item's wiki page.
  • You cannot trade with yourself or your other characters; trades between accounts that share a connection are limited and checked.

What is for sale

  • In game: type ::forsale or choose For sale at a clerk. The window lists every rare item players have offered, newest first, with a search box and a rare-only switch; click a row to start buying it.
  • Discord: the #market channel shows a rolling list of rare items for sale.
  • Website: the Market page lists the same offers.

Tips

  • Look up an item on the wiki (Items) to see its guide price and where else you can get it.
  • Selling something rare? Check the last trade price before you set yours; an offer far outside the usual range is refused.
  • If a price looks wrong, tell a moderator: odd trades are flagged and checked.
