Is PrivatePS free?

Yes. The server, the launcher and the website are free. Supporting the server is optional and only gives cosmetic perks.

Is it safe to download?

Download the launcher only from this website. It is not signed with a paid publisher certificate yet, so Windows may show a warning the first time: use More info then Run anyway for the file from the download page.

Why can I not log in?

• Check that the server is online (the dot at the top of this site).
• Log in to the launcher with your account, not your character name.
• Plugins that are not on the approved list block your login. See the rules.
• You may have reached the limit of 3 characters online at once.

Trading and the Grand Exchange

To trade other players a character needs 10 hours played or total level 650 (whichever comes first; you get a chat message when trading unlocks). This stops fresh characters being used to funnel items. The Grand Exchange (selling to and buying from the server) has no such limit. Ironmen cannot trade. Prices follow the Old School RuneScape prices and are refreshed weekly.

What happens when I die?

• In the open world there is no fee: you respawn in Death's office next to the Grand Exchange and collect your items there. They stay with Death until you collect them, but if you die again before collecting them, the old items are lost.
• In bosses, minigames and raids dying is safe.
• The Wilderness keeps the original rules.

How many characters can I have?

Ten per account, with at most three online at the same time.

Can I change my game mode or XP mode?

The game mode is permanent, except that a Hardcore Ironman can downgrade to a regular Ironman in the ::modes window. Only staff can change your XP mode: ask in Discord if there is a good reason.

When are updates?

Updates are installed by the team. You get a countdown in game and a note in Discord #announcements, and the server also restarts every Sunday at 05:00 server time. Every update is listed in the release notes.

What is a supporter?

Supporters help with the server costs and get a blue star, a Discord role and cosmetic perks. You get a month of supporter by redeeming a bond in game (bonds are bought on the support page, for yourself, and can be traded between players), or you can redeem a bond for 5 mystery boxes instead. It never gives better drops or items that help you play.
