'Action XP' is what you earn from the actions before your XP mode multiplier. See XP modes and rates and the full XP table.

Quick start

Woodcutting is the easiest skill to start and one of the best early money makers.

  1. Levels 1-15: chop normal trees (logs). Bring an axe from the General Store.
  2. Levels 15-30: oak trees, then willows at 30: willows near a bank are the fastest relaxed XP.
  3. Levels 30-60: maple trees at 45, yews at 60. Yew logs sell well on the Grand Exchange.
  4. Levels 60-99: yews until 75, then magic trees. Use the best axe you can wield.

Common mistakes: chopping far from a bank and walking too much, and forgetting that logs are also needed for Firemaking and Fletching, so a stack is never wasted.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Check your XP mode with ::modes: the same action gives very different XP at 1x and 20x.
  • Banking and travel eat time: pick a method close to a bank.
  • Items you make or gather have their own pages in Items with the Grand Exchange price.
